Owner and Principal Dentist
GDC Number: 56900
As a practice owner and principal, I believe in improving my patients’ health and wellbeing through conservative and cosmetic dental techniques that have a positive impact on their overall appearance and self-confidence.
After graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, I have completed hundreds of hours of post-graduate training in cosmetic, orthodontic, dental implantology and general dental procedures. I continually strive to remain up to date with new procedures, materials and equipment and I am an Invisalign-certified dental practitioner.
I have been in private practice for more than 30 years and my philosophy is to compassionately impact the quality of life of my patients through my personal commitment to excellence, patient satisfaction and comfort.
I believe my patients deserve the best possible care and treatment. Our patients’ time is important and we can confidently say we never run late.
Over the past 20 years, I have been restoring implants and I am continually gaining more knowledge in this area, with a special interest in function and aesthetics. I have had training under leading world experts in implants, cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics for both children and adults. Since 2002 I have completed extensive training in dentofacial orthopaedics and early intervention orthodontics. I am trained in the use of all Damon braces, which focus on the patient’s whole face now and how it will appear in years to come.
I have developed a strong relationship of trust in these communities and appreciate the steady stream of new patients that are regularly referred to us.
Together with my loyal and highly skilled team, we have served families in Marlborough, Wiltshire & Newbury as well as many patients from further afield. We serve all the surrounding boarding schools and most of the families have remained regular patients, including the young adults who first came to me for early intervention orthodontics while still at prep school!
It is so satisfying and heartwarming to walk through all the stages of life with the many patients I treated as children, who are now having their own families. I am able to care for their children as well – what a privilege!
Integrity, honesty and trust are the hallmarks of all that we do. That trust can never be compromised – this is what we strive for. I have imparted this philosophy to my team and expect this level of integrity from the specialists and expert dentists that serve our patients.
Staff turnover is minimal – we are a very happy family. We love it when our patients notice and share this, saying they feel welcomed, honoured and respected. We have grown through word of mouth and this is the highest reward and honour for the team at Marlborough Dental Studio. We love getting to know our patients. Everyone brings something special into our day – it’s not all about dentistry. Whether you live in Marlborough, Newbury or Swindon, we’ll always make you feel at home here.
Supporting our local community events, organisations and charities is also a privilege, including:
My wife Wendy has supported me in the growth of Marlborough Dental Studio with her tireless input, encouragement and wisdom. For relaxation, I love the ocean, beaches and sunshine. I grew up near the beach in South Africa so this passion will always remain with me. Wendy and I also enjoy having great fun with our two sons and extended family.
Dentist
GDC Number: 71687
I have worked with Dr Stephen Tarr since 2001 and share his passion for aesthetic dentistry. It not only has the ability to transform a patient’s appearance but their confidence too. After graduating in 1996 from the University of Bristol, and following several postgraduate courses, I established an interest in cosmetic, endodontic, and implant-retained restorative treatment. I am an Invisalign-certified dental practitioner.
This gives me the confidence to achieve the desired smile for the most discerning of clients.
As a highly disciplined and motivated dental practitioner, I have gained substantial patient-focused skills in private practice. I have gained technical skills from a restorative technician background and through the attendance of advanced aesthetic programmes. Restore your smile with us.
The extensive use of the Cerec system gives me the clinical freedom to design the precise restoration desired from a single appointment.
Marlborough Dental Studio is a family practice, providing the highest standards of care in all dental disciplines normally associated with a Harley Street address.
We really do care and always try to make our patients comfortable and welcome.
Completing a treatment and showing the patient their new smile in the mirror, still thrills me and that is why I love dentistry.
In my spare time I am a keen mountain biker and also enjoy motorbiking. I am fortunate to live on the edge of Salisbury plain so have lovely walks for myself and my dog right on my doorstep. I have been married to Jill since 1990 and we have two boys, Josh and Matthew.
Dentist
GDC Number: 271718
Bachelor of Dental Surgery – BDS (Hons). Cardiff University 2017
Having graduated with a prize at University, I ranked in the top 30 nationally amongst over 900 graduates in 2017.
Since graduating, I’ve gained vast experience in general dental practice having worked in Bath, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and The Cotswolds which has allowed me to learn from very experienced clinicians.
I love my job. I find meeting new people and helping nervous patients overcome their fear of the dentist really rewarding.
As someone with a younger brother with Down’s Syndrome, I also enjoy treating children. Previously I have conducted research with the Down’s Syndrome Association to better understand the needs of children with this condition. In 2021, my colleagues and I had research published in the ‘BDJ in Practice’ in relation to Dentistry and COVID.
In order to provide the highest quality of work, I keep up-to-date by regularly attending courses and lectures taught by the leading names in Dentistry including: Dr Louis Mackenzie from Birmingham Dental School, Dr Shiraz Khan with the IAS Academy and Dr Akit Patel at the Eastman Dental Institute.
I have a particular interest in restorative and aesthetic dentistry – the artform that is making teeth look like teeth.
I am passionate about dental care, both in the UK and abroad having previously spent two weeks in Bangladesh with the charity ‘Refugee Crisis Foundation’ where we provided emergency dental relief for the Rohingya refugee population.
Having been born and brought up in Swindon, I live locally with my husband and my one-eyed cat. My spare time is spent enjoying cooking and travelling as well as meeting loved ones.

I qualified in June 2000 at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, before relocating to the UK in 2001. I have always had a particular interest in oral surgery and implantology, and have gained vast experience in all of these fields over the years. Find out more about our dental implant treatments.
Graduating with a degree in implantology from the prestigious Lille University in France in 2009 I advanced my knowledge and skills, as well as completing numerous hours in postgraduate courses to stay abreast of the latest techniques.
My passion and interest in dental implants has allowed me to design our dental implant treatments that helps create a healthy, natural-looking mouth.
I take great pride in helping patients that travel to visit us from Marlborough, Newbury and Swindon.
Currently I am a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), British Dental Association (BDA) and General Dental Council (GDC).
Our dental implant treatments include:
Specialist Orthodontist
Senior Dental Nurse
GDC Number: 156880
I am the senior dental nurse at the practice3, and I have been working very happily at Marlborough Dental Studio since May 2005. I began dental nursing in 2000 and achieved my certificate in dental nursing in April 2003. I have been lucky enough to have been part of several roles within the practice, beginning as a dental nurse for Dr Byford, and then progressing to head nurse. The arrival of my baby boy in 2011 meant that when I returned to work as a part time employee, I returns as a part time dental nurse.
Marlborough Dental Studio has enabled me to obtain additional qualifications in the dental field including radiography and taking dental impressions, which I absolutely love, as the more I can become involved, the more I enjoy my job. My newest venture is assisting out orthodontist and co-ordinating our patients through their journey from start to finish.
Working at Marlborough Dental Studios the most rewarding job I have had as we always keep up to date with new up and coming treatments and equipment, as well as inviting a wide range of specialists into our practice to give our patients the best possible care. Whilst working at the practice I personally have had the pleasure of experiencing some of the best treatments, from dental hygiene, whitening and having orthodontic treatment before my wedding in 2007, which gave me the most amazing smile for one of the most important days in my life.
I have great admiration for all the dentists, hygienists, specialists and team members of the practice, as I feel everyone has the highest standards and respect for each other and our patients.
I would recommend any friend or family member to come and see our team as I feel we can offer a very friendly, professional service to people from all walks of life. As a practice we are all keen charity fundraisers and we often donate dental equipment to Dentaid, a dental charity that takes equipment to developing countries. As a team we entered the Race For Life to raise money for cancer research. It was a great day with some excellent fundraising achieved. This charity is particularly important to me because I lost both of my parents to the tragic disease.
Outside of work my precious time is spent with my young family, my son, daughter and husband, along with many other friends and family. These are the most important people in my life and I cherish every day with them. Another love of mine is travelling, so we always try and get as many weekends and trips away in a year as we possibly can, my main statement in life is to treasure your memories, as materialistic things come and go.
Dental Nurse
GDC Number: 180044
I started my dental career as a dental receptionist and was offered the opportunity to train as a nurse. I qualified as a registered dental nurse in 2009 after completing my training at Salisbury District Hospital and I joined the team at Marlborough Dental Studio in October 2012.
I really enjoy seeing our patients reaction when they first see the results od our dentistry in the mirror. It can be very rewarding knowing that I have played a part in the procedure.
The rapport between the team at Marlborough Dental Studio is fun yet professional and it does feel like we are one big family rather than colleagues.

Practice Manager
I qualified as a dental nurse in 2009 and since joining the practice in 2007 I have been given many opportunities to further my knowledge. In 2010 I started assisting our in-house oral surgeon. Assisting with sinus lift and implant procedures has helped me perfect my nursing skills and learn many new ones. I love being able to follow the patients’ treatment from start to finish and see how confident they become when the treatment is complete.
Since having my own teeth straightened at the practice I have a real passion for the many orthodontic procedures that are available to our patients. This year I became an Invisalign treatment co-ordinator. Promoting Invisalign in our practice is so exciting.
If I could go back four years and have the clear aligners I would! Patients are able to feel confident while wearing a brace, which you can’t even see and I love that you can see the end result before the treatment has even begun with their special imaging technology.
I always love a challenge and this year I had further training in taking impressions and radiographs. I passed both exams and am looking forward to using these skills in my new role as treatment co-ordinator. My next challenge is to look further into oral health education.
Working at Marlborough Dental Studio is not just a job it’s a part of my life. It’s like having an extended family. We all work really well as a team. We were also able to work as a team and raise money for Cancer Research when we did the Race For Life together.
Next year I hope to do the same and also raise awareness for children with Type 1 Diabetes. It is a charity close to my heart as my niece has been affected by the consequences of the condition.
In my spare time I love socialising and shopping like most women in the world! I also enjoy keeping fit and working in a practice with three flights of stairs certainly does the trick. I love to travel and I have been fortunate enough to visit some amazing places. In the next couple of years I want to travel to Uganda or Zimbabwe with Dentaid to help less fortunate countries become aware of their oral health.
Patient Co-ordinator
I joined Marlborough Dental Studio in 2006 and work on reception/administration where I enjoy welcoming new and existing patients to our practice, helping put them at ease. Its nice to have a chat to help break the ice or hear the news on their families/pets that have been attending for a while, its like your family coming to visit and makes for a happy atmosphere.
I love walking with our rescue spaniel, cooking, reading, gardening and visiting places of interest through National Trust and English Heritage.
My grandchildren keep me busy; our youngest daughter was a triathlete and to help her I trained as a Triathlete Coash.
Our goal is not to keep our patients waiting when here for their appointment, as our aim is to keep them as relaxed as possible and less apprehensive about their visit.
With the much-improved technology with the Cerec milling for crowns in the practice, contained training in cross infections, FirstAid/CPR and defibrillator as a team, we are confident out patients receive the best care and we will happily go that extra mile,. Even personally delivering retainers/aligners to patients doors.
Senior Receptionist / Treatment co-ordinator / Marketing
I am the practice manager at Marlborough Dental Studio and I have been with the practice for 13 years.
I qualified as a dental nurse in May 2003 and part of being a dental nurse is ensuring we have regular training and refresher courses. One of my personal favourites is cross infection control. It is always so interesting to see how things are ever-changing and to implement new procedures to the practice to ensure our patients are being treated in a healthy, clean and safe environment.
I took on the role as practice manager in April 2013 and very much enjoy being front of house, welcoming patients to the practice and keeping everything running efficiently with the help of an amazing team. I have currently been on a Practice Managers’ Forum where it was great to be with other practice managers learning and sharing ideas.
I love working at Marlborough Dental Studio as it is like being at work with your extended family. We all work hard as a team and take any challenges on together. I admire how hard the dentists and hygienists work and how they still find time for practical jokes on staff along the way. They all have an amazing sense of humour.
The most rewarding part of my job is ensuring patients leave happy having achieved everything they want with their smile. I am currently considering having Invisalign invisible braces with our specialist Graham Gardner to achieve my perfect smile.
As a family we support JDRF (Supporting Type 1 Diabetes) and Diabetes UK, a charity that is extremely close to our hearts because Aoife was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in May 2013 aged just seven. She is amazing and can teach me a thing or two about courage.
Patient Co-ordinator
I joined the lovely team at Marlborough Dental Studio in 2013 as a steri-nurse. I used to work as a dental nurse for a hygienist for about 10 years so I’m very happy to be working back at a dental practice again.
I hope to gain my dental nurse qualification one day. I’m very lucky to be working in such a great practice with lovely people. Everyone has been very friendly and helped me to do my job. I admire them all for the great work they do and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better. I have a grown up son and I enjoy walking, swimming and spending time with family and friends.
Dental Hygienist
GDC Number: 2449
I trained at the Institute of Dental Health and Training at RAF Halton and qualified in 1982, gaining CEB Cert in Dental Hygiene. I spent 22 years in the Royal Air Force as a dental hygienist working in general dental practice and oral surgery.
I joined Marlborough Dental Studio in October 2001. During my time at the practice I have attended courses in local anaesthetics, impression taking and temporary dressings, and tooth whitening to extend my scope of practice. I continue to attend meetings on a regular basis to ensure I am up to date in all things periodontal.
I have been a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy for 32 years and attend the annual scientific meeting most years.
I am passionate about helping our patients achieve and maintain the best oral health possible and I try and ensure that I put my patients at ease so that they enjoy their experience in my care. I enjoy working with our great team who are always professional, conscientious and hard working.
I always recommend Marlborough Dental Studio to my friends and family because of these high standards of care.
Eight years ago, I underwent 24 months of orthodontic treatment using the Damon system. It was a surprise for my family for a person of my age to have train tracks!
The orthodontic treatment has helped with my confidence but more importantly I now have far fewer headaches. I have also had two implants placed and experienced the Cerec 3D system.
All these experiences have enabled me to appreciate patients’ concerns about new dental treatments.
I settled in Wiltshire 23 years ago where I live with my partner and our cocker spaniel. I enjoy many sporting activities, particularly running and golf, and I have completed the Bath and Stratford upon Avon half marathons to raise money for Cancer Research UK, The Stroke Association and Ataxia UK.
I currently hold a single figure handicap in golf and have represented Wiltshire at county level. I also enjoy walking and spend many happy days on the Southwest coastal path and many other great areas of the British Isles.
